William Hawley has only a few months left on a 15-year sentence for a non-violent offense. He is now begging Martin County Circuit Court in Florida to release him before COVID kills him.
Bill is the author of “Sex and the Serial Killer; My Bizarre Times with Robert Durst” he wrote under the pseudonym William Steel.
In the early 1980s, Bill’s life took a turn towards the macabre when he quite literally ran into Robert Durst in midtown Manhattan. Bill was attending a school for locksmithing and security systems at the time, and Durst — the black sheep of a family that controls billions of dollars in New York real estate — decided he could use a man of those specific talents.
Little did Bill realize that his new acquaintance was not only the prime suspect in his first wife’s mysterious disappearance, but quite possibly the person whom Bill believes is “the wealthiest serial killer in American history.”
Now flash forward to an emergency motion filed last week in Circuit Court of Martin County to reduce by only a few months the 15-year prison sentence of this fully reformed, non-violent offender on account of his being deathly afraid of catching COVID-19.
The reason the motion is an emergency is that Hawley is presently serving a sentence for his non-violent crime of walking off a work detail while serving a sentence for grand theft committed in Florida. The circuit court petition to release him was filed by The Ticktin Law Group in Deerfield Beach, FL.
Hawley is an author and a fully reformed inmate serving his time out of Florida because he cooperated with federal police agencies, which put him in serious jeopardy in Florida.
The undisclosed out of state prison where Hawley is serving his sentence has now released all the other non-violent prisoners with less than a year remaining on their sentences due to the COVID-19 emergency endangering prison populations.
As COVID-19 spreads among violent offenders, Hawley should be released as were the other non-violent offenders in the out of state prison where he is confined.
During his prison term, Hawley has been a model prisoner who successfully passed college courses offered by one of the top universities in the country and has written this book about alleged serial killer Robert Durst “Dursturbed,” a tell all tale about Hawley’s mission to bring the multi-millionaire Durst to justice.
Please listen to me Martin County Circuit Court and you too, Governor DeSantis.
Bill has been in prison long enough for a non-violent offence. My PR firm, TransMedia Group, is trying to raise awareness of how unfair this is to keep him locked up while COVID-19 is knocking on his cell block.
He’s completely reformed and ready to become a decent, law-abiding citizen and a productive author, so why keep him imprisoned even for another 24 hours?
One person who probably doesn’t want Bill released is Robert Durst who’ll one day in the not too distant future go on trial in California for murder.
