Among millions of soccer fans who thought that red card was so out of place after such a bad call on Folarin Balogun, one happened to be the President of the United States.
And like he usually does, President Trump spoke his mind. Kudos to him!
Sure, his contacting FIFA President Gianni Infantino sparked controversy. What’s wrong with that? Controversy should be well at home in a blistering sport like soccer, not to mention with a president as feisty as Trump. “I don’t think it was a foul,” Trump said, as did millions of soccer fans.
Yes, this was obviously a bad call against Balogun as his stepping on the ankle of defender Tarik Muhareovic was obviously unintentional occurring during intense competition.
Knowing how important was the next upcoming game for the U.S. Men’s National Team and what it would mean to lose Balogun, President Trump did what he usually does, he acted. Trump did what he thought was right, which was contacting FIFA President Gianni Infantino to question the red card call as it was obviously so uncalled for, especially with an important game upcoming for the U.S. team, the USA-Belgium match.
Fortunately, the FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee overturned the one-game ban, making Balogun eligible to play. Hooray, another victory and such a deserving one for President Trump. Isn’t it wonderful that even our president has free speech!
