My PR firm TransMedia Group was about to issue a news release about “America Salutes You” teaming up with ReverbNation. Then something happened that put more urgency behind this nationally televised concert series honoring U.S. veterans.
A U.S. veteran and a rising political star, Jason Kander, announced he was quitting the Kansas City mayor race citing PTSD/depression.
Raising funds to support such mental health affecting veterans is exactly what Bob Okun had in his mind and heart when he created America Salutes You. All donations generated by the series go directly to veterans and those currently serving in all branches of the armed services.
“Instead of dealing with these issues, I’ve always tried to find a way around them,” Kander said. “I thought if I focused exclusively on service to my neighbors in my hometown, that I could fill the hole inside of me. But it’s just getting worse.”
First concert features live performances in front of 2,000 people to be broadcast later as a two-hour streamed special in December on stations nationwide.
Now Kander has put new meaning into the event after bravely deciding to share his full story now https://jasonkander.com/notefromjason/ in part to help other veterans dealing with mental health issues realize they should seek treatment.
“Most people probably didn’t see me as someone that could be depressed and have had PTSD symptoms for over decade, but I am and I have. If you’re struggling with something similar, it’s OK. That doesn’t make you less of a person.”
So Ten-Hut America!
“America Salutes You will show our troops and veterans the support they deserve, and partners like ReverbNation and their global reach into artist enclaves everywhere provides the perfect synergy,” said Okun.
So come on sponsors, join United Airlines, Walgreens, ATT, KLOVE Radio, Tribune Media, and AXS sponsoring this charitable event.
ReverbNation will conduct a contest to select one Lucky ReverbNation artist to perform during the concert. ReverbNation helps emerging artists build their careers and connect to venues, festivals, brands, publishers, labels, and fans.
That lucky artist will be among such big names as Billy Gibbons, Joe Bonamassa, Sammy Hagar, Dave Navarro, Orianthi, Anthony Kearns, and many more confirmed for this event at the Novo Theater in Los Angeles.
