Cultures once crawled at glacier speed. Today malignant sub-forms are coursing rapaciously through America’s cities.
They’re storming in at breakneck speed overturning statues, uprooting monuments–clubbing, mauling and murdering our citizens.
Will this be our crude and contentious legacy? It better not!
Hopefully saner heads will prevail and city officials will no longer grant permits to white supremacists to peacefully (that’s a laugh) assemble and to protest removal of Civil War Era statues like that of Colonel Robert E. Lee.
These relics are to go where they belong, in cemeteries away from city centers.
As for statues of our founding fathers who were slave owners, let’s remind ourselves not to judge them by today’s moral standards, but by their heroic achievements. Times were different then so there is no moral equivalence to what happened in Charlottesville.
As for President Trump, he was right to condemn all hatred, violence and provocateurs on “both sides” as there surely were goons on both sides.
Perhaps he was a little late to call the white supremacists by name as he criticized his predecessor for not calling Radical Islamist Terrorists by name. But Trump then called them what they are—anti-Americans who out of step with what our country stands for—freedom. Not the freedom to spew fiery rhetoric and incite violence and cause bloodshed in a crowded city square.
Let’s all get to work in making America Not Hate Again, but truly Great Again!
